Collaboration Between Pindad and TMI Advances Indonesia’s National Electric Car Project
Indonesia’s national car project is gaining momentum with the active involvement of PT Pindad (Persero) and PT Teknologi Militer Indonesia (TMI). These strategic companies are at the forefront of efforts to develop fully domestically designed and produced electric vehicles.
TMI initiated the national car project through the Indigenous Indonesian Car (I2C) concept, which serves as the foundation for the country’s homegrown electric vehicles. The project emphasizes the importance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) being fully held by Indonesia, ensuring that the national car technology remains under domestic control.
Although Pindad and TMI operate under different institutions, both share the same goal of supporting government programs. The companies have coordinated to align their concepts for developing Indonesia’s national electric vehicle.
Pindad has extensive experience in vehicle production, including various tactical vehicles such as the Maung. One special model, the Maung Garuda Limousine, is even used as a presidential official vehicle. The collaboration between Pindad’s production expertise and TMI’s innovation in electric vehicles is expected to strengthen Indonesia’s national car ecosystem.
This initiative demonstrates the government’s and local companies’ commitment to creating a national electric car that is not only manufactured domestically but also fully controlled by the nation.
