Garut Regency Government Encourages Local MSMEs to Become Suppliers for the Free Nutritious Meal Program

GARUT — The Regent of Garut, Abdusy Syakur Amin, officially launched the Kick-Off Program for Empowering Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and Community Groups as Suppliers for the Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG). The event took place at the PT Mandala 525 (MDL 525) factory on Guntur Melati Street, Tarogong Kidul District, Garut Regency, on Wednesday (January 21, 2026).

In his remarks, Regent Abdusy stated that the program represents a strategic and comprehensive effort to strengthen the development of MSMEs in Garut. The initiative is designed to address key challenges commonly faced by small businesses, including raw material availability, production process standardization, and food safety assurance.

According to him, continuous assistance and mentoring for MSMEs are essential to ensure that products meet food safety standards and are safe for long-term consumption. This approach is expected to enhance the competitiveness of local MSMEs and enable them to play a significant role as suppliers in the national Free Nutritious Meal Program.

Regent Abdusy also reaffirmed the Garut Regency Government’s commitment to collaborating with the national MBG program. One of the planned steps is to submit a recommendation letter to the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) so that local MSMEs from Garut can be prioritized as food suppliers.

The discussion also highlighted plans to develop soybean cultivation in Garut Regency. This initiative aligns with Indonesia’s current reliance on soybean imports, which reach approximately 2.6 million tons annually. The Regent emphasized that Garut has strong potential and suitable land conditions to become one of the country’s national soybean production centers.

He added that the development of local soybeans must be supported not only by increased production, but also by appropriate technology, efficient processing systems, and adequate access to capital to ensure optimal and sustainable results.

Meanwhile, MDL 525 Director Haris Kalicman expressed his company’s readiness to fully support the MSME empowerment program. As an industry with extensive experience in producing soybean milk powder, MDL 525 guarantees that locally sourced soybeans can compete in quality with imported products.

Haris emphasized that MDL 525 is prepared to ensure product quality through its advanced technology, sufficient production capacity, and complete regulatory compliance, including BPOM permits and required certifications.
