Ahead of Ramadan, Chili and Other Commodities Prices Rise in Bandung, But Remain Stable
The Mayor of Bandung, Muhammad Farhan, stated that ahead of Ramadan, the prices of several food commodities in the city have increased, although they remain within reasonable limits. Intensive monitoring by the City Trade and Industry Office (Disdagin) at traditional markets shows that there has been no extreme price surge that could affect consumers’ purchasing power.
“Overall, prices are still under control. There is a slight increase in some horticultural commodities, particularly chili, due to weather conditions, but it has not spiked sharply,” said Farhan on Sunday (February 1, 2026).
According to Disdagin’s report, the price of red bird’s eye chili is currently around IDR 58,000 per kilogram, up about IDR 9,000 compared to the previous period. Despite the increase, this is far lower than the previous surge which reached IDR 80,000–IDR 100,000 per kilogram.
“Currently, the situation is more stable compared to when we conducted inspections with Disdagin and Bulog some time ago,” Farhan added.
Prices of animal protein commodities such as beef, chicken, and eggs remain normal. At the end of January 2026, beef was priced around IDR 140,000 per kilogram, chicken IDR 38,000 per kilogram, and eggs IDR 29,000 per kilogram.
“The meat sector is relatively stable, with no significant price fluctuations,” Farhan explained.
Farhan also assured that the landslide disaster in West Bandung did not disrupt food distribution to the city. Distribution routes remain smooth, ensuring supply and market prices remain stable.
Ahead of Ramadan, the Bandung city government is committed to maintaining price stability so that residents can observe the holy month without worrying about rising food costs. “We do not want the people of Bandung to face Ramadan with concerns over food prices. The government is present to ensure supplies are secure, prices are controlled, and purchasing power is maintained,” he emphasized.
As a precaution, Disdagin will again hold the Main Affordable Bazaar (Bazmut) in 30 subdistricts. This program aims to keep prices affordable and curb potential inflation ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.
“This affordable bazaar is not just ceremonial but a concrete instrument to maintain price stability at the consumer level,” Farhan concluded.
