Bandung Barat Landslide: 60 Bodies Recovered, 20 Still Missing in Cisarua

CISARUA, WEST BANDUNG – The joint SAR team continues the search for victims of the devastating landslide in Pasirlangu Village, Cisarua District, West Bandung Regency. As of Friday (Jan 30, 2026), the total number of recovered deceased victims has reached 60 bodies, with 20 individuals still reported missing.

The Head of Basarnas, Mohammad Syafii, expressed his hope that all victims would be located before the emergency response status ends. The 14-day emergency period was officially declared by the Regent of West Bandung, Jeje Ritchie Ismail, on January 24, 2026.

Search Progress and Identification

On the seventh day of the operation, rescuers recovered five additional body bags. These were immediately handed over to the West Java Regional Police DVI (Disaster Victim Identification) team. To date, 44 victims have been successfully identified.

“The number of victims still being searched for is 20 people,” Syafii stated in Pasirlangu Village on Friday (Jan 30, 2026).

Search Challenges and Resources

The massive operation involves over 3,000 personnel, supported by:

  • Aerial Support: 5 helicopters and 22 drones.
  • Heavy Equipment: 17 units of machinery.

Syafii explained that the primary obstacles are the thickness of the landslide debris, which exceeds 10 meters in several locations, and high rainfall, which limits the operation of heavy equipment. While physical searching is halted at night, the team continues with evaluation and coordination 24 hours a day.

Relocation and Safety Measures

Regent Jeje Ritchie Ismail noted that based on the Landslide Susceptibility Zone (ZKGT) mapping by the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, some residents in “yellow zones” (moderate risk) have been allowed to return home. However, those in high-risk areas will be relocated to temporary or permanent housing.

“The local government will look for a safe relocation site in accordance with the mapping results from the Geological Agency,” Jeje stated. He also urged the public to remain vigilant against potential disasters due to ongoing high rainfall and to evacuate immediately if warning signs appear.
