Bandung BRT Construction Starts February: Check Potential Traffic Spots

BANDUNG – The physical construction of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) dedicated lanes (on-corridor) in Bandung is set to begin in February 2026. This project includes the installation of physical separators and bus stops along 21 kilometers of the city’s main roads.

Rasdian Setiadi, Head of the Bandung City Transportation Agency (Dishub), stated that 18 out of the planned 20 BRT routes will soon be operational. Construction is scheduled to commence following the finalization of contracts by the Ministry of Transportation this month.

Affected Roads The construction of dedicated lanes and shelters is expected to cause significant traffic congestion in several downtown areas. The primary roads impacted by the project include:

  • Jalan Sudirman and Jalan Rajawali.
  • Jalan Pasir Koja, Otista, and Jalan Dewi Sartika.
  • Jalan Banceuy, Jalan Naripan, Jalan Ahmad Yani, and Jalan Jakarta.

Traffic Mitigation Strategies To minimize the impact, the Bandung Transportation Agency will deploy personnel to key locations and coordinate with the police for traffic engineering. Additionally, a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with the Traffic Forum will be held this month to discuss comprehensive short-term and long-term solutions.

The government is also relying on AI-based Intelligent Traffic System (ITS) technology. This system can automatically detect vehicle queues at traffic lights and trigger green lights to alleviate congestion during the construction period.
