Board of Peace Donald Trump Draws Criticism in Malaysian Parliament
Kuala Lumpur – Member of Parliament for Bangi, Syahredzan Johan (PH-Bangi), stated his personal stance to reject all invitations to events organized by the United States Embassy in Kuala Lumpur. This move was taken as a form of protest against various global policies of U.S. President Donald Trump.
Syahredzan delivered the statement during the royal address debate in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday (26/1/2026). In his speech, he voiced strong criticism of the United States over a number of actions that he said do not respect the sovereignty of other nations.
He highlighted several controversial incidents and stressed the need for Malaysia to continue standing as a voice of truth on the international stage. According to him, the conduct of the United States has gone beyond acceptable limits and does not align with the principles of sovereignty.
“All of this proves that the United States can no longer boast of being the champion of democracy and human rights in the world,” Syahredzan told fellow lawmakers.
As the basis of his criticism, Syahredzan referred to several issues, including allegations that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife were taken from their country and brought to the United States in a military operation, reported U.S. intentions to take control of Greenland, a territory under Denmark’s sovereignty, as well as the establishment of the security body known as the Board of Peace, which he criticized as potentially replacing the role of the United Nations (UN).
He also questioned the credibility of the body in discussing global peace while the conflict in Gaza continues to this day.
Concluding his speech, Syahredzan urged Malaysia to continue playing an important role on the international stage as a voice of truth, including speaking out against major powers when they overstep their boundaries.
Quoting the late Tunku Abdul Rahman, he said Malaysia must be a “beacon of hope in a troubled and disrupted world.” Although a small country, he stressed that Malaysia still has an important voice amid today’s turbulent global situation.
